Torben Mahns
…was born 1994 in Hamburg and spent most of his youth and childhood in Rendsburg, northern Germany. There he attended the Rendsburg music school and took piano, violin and drum lessons. He played violin, percussion and piano in the big band Conspiracy 17 in the music school's youth orchestra and became a member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Youth Orchestra at the age of 14. He has also recorded his own works with the North German Sinfonietta and the Collegium Musicum Rendsburg.
In total, he took part in the music competition “Jugend musiziert” (youth makes music) 7 times in various categories and is a three-time federal prize winner. After his FSJ Kultur in Schwerin, he decided to move to Rostock after passing the entrance exam and study at the HMT Rostock. After a short time in music education studies, he switched to the pop department of the university with a BA Music in piano, pop/jazz/world instrumental.
He plays violin, piano, drums and ukulele, produces music on the computer as a hobby and plays violin in the bands Lappalie and Destinesia and piano in Sonora Bogotá.
He is teaching Kids as well as adults from 5-99 years, and currently also engaged in a kindergarden/preschool music education project.
